In a sad development, renowned Hong Kong actress Hung Suet Nei, known as Suet Nay Hung, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Thursday, July 3, while hospitalized.
At the age of 77, she had been contending with cancer for several years and required prolonged medical care.
Just over a week before her passing, her husband, the former action choreographer Tang Chia, tragically died in an apparent suicide by falling from their residence.
He was 88 years old.
Though no suicide note was found, it was believed that he struggled deeply with Suet Nay’s declining condition, expressing to family members his wish to “leave with her.”
In recent years, Suet Nay also faced hereditary hearing loss, which left her completely deaf in one ear.
Tang Chia was a devoted partner, often acting as her “personal hearing aid.”
Following his death, it was disclosed that he had planned to consult a lawyer for drafting his will but ultimately chose to take his own life.
They shared 54 years of marriage and were considered one of Hong Kong’s most affectionate couples in the entertainment industry.
Originating from Hubei, China, Suet Nay kicked off her career in 1962 at the young age of 17, gaining fame for her portrayal of a swordswoman in The Legend of Wonder Lady.
She briefly stepped back from acting in 1969 and relocated to Canada with her family.
After returning to Hong Kong in the 1990s, she rejoined TVB in 1997 and subsequently retired again in 2020.
Despite making few public appearances since then, she was last photographed in August of last year, radiating happiness alongside her husband.
