Baker Boy Unites with Thelma Plum for Impactful New Track ‘THICK SKIN’

## New Single “THICK SKIN”
Baker Boy has teamed up with some incredible artists for his latest single, “THICK SKIN.” This track provides an exciting glimpse into his upcoming second album.
### A Bold Transition into Punk
“THICK SKIN” represents a significant shift in style for Baker Boy as he explores punk influences for the first time. The song was inspired by the 2023 Indigenous Voice Referendum and the racism it unveiled in Australia.
“I wasn’t as much upset about the result; it was the way our community became a talking point, with slogans like ‘if you don’t know vote no’ fostering ignorance,” he explains. “It brought to light the daily experiences of being Yolŋu and Indigenous in this country, and that resonated deeply with me.”
### A Powerful Collaboration
The single features a dynamic Blak choir including Thelma Plum, Emma Donovan, Kee’ahn, and Jada Weazel, creating a powerful anthem of resilience and unity. The punk-inspired sound allowed Baker Boy to express his emotions in a way he hadn’t before.
“It’s not in my nature to channel anger in my music; I’ve built a reputation for positivity,” he shares. “But this punk-infused production enabled me to voice my true feelings.”
### Upcoming Album: *DJANDJAY*
At the end of July, Baker Boy announced that his second album, *DJANDJAY*, is set to be released on October 10th. This album features collaborations with notable artists like Briggs and Haiku Hands.
He describes the 15-track album as his “most impactful work to date.” Named after his late grandmother and a significant Yolŋu spiritual figure, the octopus spirit symbolizes guidance, reflecting deep ancestral roots.
The release of *DJANDJAY* follows his debut album, *Gela*, which won five ARIA Awards. Baker Boy had already achieved notable recognition at a young age, including being named Young Australian of the Year.
### Personal Growth and Artistic Intention
Baker Boy jokes about “becoming Baker Man” during the album’s recording process. “I’ve matured significantly since *Gela*, becoming more focused on my music and career goals,” he notes.
“I believe this album embodies everything Baker Boy stands for. It’s fun yet carries a more mature essence. I’ve experimented with diverse sounds and energies, emphasizing my artistic direction over external expectations.”
He continues, “There’s a blend of the upbeat reputation I’ve cultivated and a dive into more genuine, deeper emotions. *DJANDJAY* is about honesty, strength, and defiance. It feels like my entire essence has been poured into this album.”
### A Final Note
*DJANDJAY* will be available on October 10th through Island Records and Universal Music. Are you excited to hear Baker Boy’s new sound?
