Anna Sawai Cast as Yoko Ono in Upcoming Beatles Biopic
Emmy award-winning actress Anna Sawai has secured the role of Yoko Ono in an ambitious four-part biopic about The Beatles, set to premiere in 2028.
Role Details and Cast
Sawai, recognized for her Outstanding Lead Actress win for her role as Lady Mariko in *Shōgun*, will bring to life the avant-garde artist and musician who was a significant collaborator of John Lennon.
Ono and Lennon were married in 1969 and had a partnership that continued until his passing in 1980.
Joining her in portraying the spouses of the iconic band are Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen, Ringo Starr’s first wife, Saoirse Ronan as Linda, Paul McCartney’s first wife, and Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, the first wife of George Harrison.
Director Sam Mendes remarked, “Maureen, Linda, Yoko, and Pattie are four fascinating individuals. It’s an honor to have such talented actresses for this project.”
Key Cast Members
In April, the lead roles were disclosed, featuring Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
Each film in this series will focus on a different member of The Beatles, chronicling their journey from unknowns in Liverpool during the 1960s to the world’s biggest band prior to their split in 1970.
This marks the first occasion that The Beatles and their descendants have granted rights for a theatrical depiction of their music and lives.
