In a 2021 conversation with Film Companion, Deepika expressed her views on standardized work hours. A fan account shared a clip with the message, “Deepika Padukone didn’t leave Kalki 2 for herself.” In the clip, Deepika states, “The hours that we work often imply that the crew must exert extra effort, work overtime, and be continuously on the go to expedite the process.”
She further explained, “I believe that providing sufficient downtime and rest allows individuals to return with renewed energy, enhancing productivity. The quality of the work output improves significantly as well. If there’s anything I could change, it would be this.”
Deepika also proposed a transition to a five-day work week, akin to models in the West, with Saturdays reserved for preparation and Sundays dedicated to personal time. She emphasized that the crew should receive proper compensation for any overtime hours worked and that better food options should be provided on set.
Ahaana reshared this clip on her Instagram stories, supporting Deepika’s assertion with, “Absolutely! Why are weekends, especially Sundays, treated as insignificant in films?”

Deepika has garnered attention recently due to reports indicating her removal from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel, allegedly due to her demands for better work hours, along with other issues. Earlier this month, she addressed this topic with CNBC-TV18. She highlighted that typically, male superstars adhere to an 8-hour workday, a practice that seldom attracts attention.
