ABC Puts Jimmy Kimmel's Late-Night Show on Hold Following Controversial Remarks

ABC, the US television network, has decided to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely following remarks he made concerning the death of Charlie Kirk.

This decision, announced on September 17, occurred after Nexstar Media Group revealed that its ABC affiliates would be pre-empting Jimmy Kimmel Live! due to his controversial comments.

Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, stated, “Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse. We do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located.”

A representative for Kimmel has yet to respond to requests for comments on the matter.

During his monologue on Tuesday, Kimmel remarked, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel has been vocal in his criticism of former President Donald Trump and many of his policies throughout his tenure on ABC. Similarly, CBS announced earlier this summer the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show for financial reasons, though some speculate that his critical stance on Trump may have influenced the decision.

What are your thoughts on the growing tensions in late-night television commentary?
