Eddy Current Suppression Ring: A Rare Reunion Concert You Can't Miss!

Eddy Current Suppression Ring Returns to Melbourne

Eddy Current Suppression Ring is set to make a comeback with their first headline show in Melbourne after a remarkable 15-year break. This beloved garage-punk band will deliver a free concert at Fed Square on Friday, September 26th, coinciding with the AFL Grand Final eve public holiday.

A Special All-Ages Event

This performance marks the band’s first significant appearance since their unexpected set at Hobart’s Dark Mofo in 2016. That reunion included a standout performance at Golden Plains, and Melbourne fans have been waiting since their 2010 show at The Palace for a local headline event.

A Celebration of Melbourne’s Music Scene

“Eddy Current Suppression Ring is a band woven into the fabric of Melbourne’s music history. Raw, fearless and utterly electrifying live,” remarked Fed Square’s Director of Programming, Sarah Tutton. “We’re thrilled to welcome them back for what promises to be an unforgettable evening, highlighting our commitment to hosting exceptional free, all-ages events celebrating the best in music right in Melbourne.”

The Band’s Journey

Eddy Current Suppression Ring originated in 2003 during an impromptu jam at a Christmas party for a Melbourne vinyl pressing plant. They quickly became one of Australia’s most influential indie bands, known for their stripped-back sound and DIY ethos.

Their acclaimed album Primary Colours (2008) received the Australian Music Prize, while Rush to Relax (2010) reached the ARIA Top 20. Double J lauded them as “one of Australia’s finest ever garage rock bands,” underscoring their lasting influence on the Australian indie music scene.

Supporting Acts

This announcement comes on the heels of the overwhelming demand for their recently released split 7-inch Shapes and Forms, which sold out shortly after its launch. The concert will host EDAN, a New York-based MC and producer known for blending golden-era hip-hop with experimental sounds. Additionally, Melbourne duo Wrong Way Up will kick off the evening with their unique fusion of Afro-disco, ’70s synth-funk, and avant-garde electronic music.
