## Billy Joel Opens Up About His Health
Billy Joel has recently shared insights into his health after disclosing a brain disorder diagnosis that led to the cancellation of his tour dates.
### Health Diagnosis
In a candid conversation with Bill Maher on the podcast *Club Random*, Joel shared, “I feel fine.” However, he noted that his balance is off, describing it as akin to being on a boat. His unexpected condition, known as normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), forced him to cancel 17 shows planned across North America and England.
### Understanding Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus
Normal pressure hydrocephalus occurs when excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain’s ventricles. This can result in various cognitive and physical issues, particularly affecting movement and coordination. According to the Cleveland Clinic, symptoms can closely resemble those of dementia, although NPH is sometimes reversible.
Joel has mentioned that while his condition is not completely resolved, efforts are being made to address it. He explained that NPH was previously termed “water on the brain” and that its exact causes remain unknown.
### Recent Performances and Break
The last concert for this tour was on February 22 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. During that performance, Joel experienced a fall but continued to finish his set. In March, he announced a planned pause on touring due to a medical issue requiring surgery and physical therapy. Although he intended to return by July 5 in Pittsburgh, it’s still uncertain if this was related to his NPH diagnosis.
### Reflections on Recovery
Joel conveyed a positive outlook, stating, “I feel good,” while discussing his health alongside topics like his two-part documentary, *Billy Joel: And So It Goes*. He remarked that while his condition is labeled as a brain disorder, it sounds more severe than how he actually feels.
