Kesha Opens Up About Her Voice Loss Amid Dr. Luke Legal Struggles

## Kesha’s Long Legal Battle

Throughout her protracted legal struggles with Dr. Luke, Kesha lived in a challenging duality. On one hand, she was embroiled in litigation with the producer, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald. He initiated a countersuit for defamation after her allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse were dismissed on technical grounds. On the other hand, she continued to release music through his label, Kemosabe Records, while performing songs that she had no ownership rights to, in front of her devoted fans.

## Emotional Struggles

In a heartfelt discussion on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast *Reclaiming*, Kesha opened up about the intense mental and emotional turmoil this situation caused her. In an exclusive podcast clip, she expressed, “In my mind, it just felt like the biggest head fuck of all time.” At that time, Kemosabe Records managed all aspects of her music career, including the promotion and release of her first five albums—from 2010’s *Animal* to 2023’s *Gag Order*. She explained, “The recordings of my voice did not legally belong to me in the universe, in perpetuity. The only way I get out of the deal is if I delivered the music, so it got very weird.”

## A Lifelong Battle

Kesha shared how she still finds it difficult to comprehend the situation. “I’m doing the thing I love to do. I’m one of the best in the world at doing it. I have all these amazing fans; they want me to win,” she stated. Yet, the emotional conflict left her perplexed. “It still perplexes me because it kind of makes no sense how the legal system could just watch this be happening and be like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s fine.’”

Despite her fans’ support, Kesha admitted there were times when she felt invisible to the world. “It felt inhumane. And then in the middle of it all, it’s like, well go onstage and smile and sing ‘TikTok,’” she reflected. “And I would, because I want my fans to have a beautiful place to connect with each other. But I was dying. I was truly dying inside.”

## Moving Forward

Now, Kesha is eager to chart a fresh course for her career. While her healing journey continues, she has recently released *Period,* stylized as the punctuation mark (.), marking her first album as an independent artist. At last, she has reclaim her voice and identity, free from the constraints of her past.

What are your thoughts on Kesha’s journey and her resilience in the face of adversity?
