‘Woke up to Delhi’s AQI at 447’: Vaani Kapoor advises celebrating Diwali without ‘dimming the air we breathe’
A day after Diwali, New Delhi woke up to a thick layer of smog as the air quality dropped to ‘Very Poor’ levels.
As Delhi-NCR celebrates Diwali amidst hazardous air and pollution regulations under Stage 2 of the Graded Action Response Plan, actress Vaani Kapoor expressed her concern over the city’s air quality through her Instagram Stories.
Vaani’s Message
In her Instagram update, Vaani stated, “Woke up to Delhi’s AQI touching 447, one of the highest in the world today. Maybe next year, we find a way to celebrate without dimming the air we breathe.”
Previously, Vaani shared her Diwali plans, saying, “I plan to have a quiet Diwali this year with close people, home-cooked food, and without any social pressure. The best celebrations are warm, kind, and mindful. Light diyas, share sweets, and spread happiness, especially with those less fortunate.”
Understanding Delhi’s AQI
The Air Quality Index (AQI) classification is as follows: 0-50 is good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe.
Recently, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) activated Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital Region. Affected individuals include both healthy people and those with existing respiratory issues.
The Supreme Court granted permission for the sale and use of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali under specific conditions.
According to the SAMEER app by the CPCB, four monitoring stations reported AQI levels beyond 400, indicating severe air quality. These stations included Bawana (431), Burari Crossing (404), Jahangirpuri (407), and Wazirpur (408).
