Rashmika Mandanna's Thamma: Box Office Outlook vs. Diwali Hits

Thamma Box Office Prediction: Rashmika Mandanna’s Film Faces Tough Competition

Among the two Hindi films premiering this Diwali is Thamma, a horror-comedy produced by Maddock Films. This movie marks another entry in the Maddock cinematic universe, following popular titles like Stree 2 and Bhediya. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, Thamma has generated about ₹4 crore in advance ticket sales, aiming for a respectable double-digit opening on its first day, though it might not meet the expectations of its producers.

Opening Day Expectations for Thamma

The advance ticket sales for Thamma are below the usual Diwali release standards. Recent updates from Sacnilk indicate that the film sold about 145,039 tickets in pre-sale across India, resulting in an estimated gross of ₹4.06 crore. With more time left for bookings, the film is striving for a final figure exceeding ₹6 crore.

Insiders in the film industry predict that the Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna starrer could see an opening day revenue hovering between ₹18-20 crore. However, anything beyond this would be considered extra. The low advance sales for a franchise film during Diwali is quite unexpected.

With its release planned across 4,000 screens nationwide and no other Hindi films debuting simultaneously, Thamma has a prime opportunity for success. Yet, it seems likely that it will fall short of the impressive openings registered by last year’s Diwali titles—such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Returns, which earned ₹35 crore and ₹32 crore, respectively. A trade expert remarked on the surprising forecasts of ₹30-32 crore for Thamma given its current buzz.

More on Thamma

Thamma is part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which includes films like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. Set for release in theaters on October 21, it aims to delve into folklore centered on vampires. Producer Dinesh Vijan mentioned that while he hasn’t seen Lokah, he has heard it received rave reviews. He noted that the concept behind Thamma draws heavily from ‘mythos’, differentiating it from other films in the series.

So, how do you think Thamma will fare against its competition this Diwali?
