Liam Payne Shares Insights on Music for AJ McLean Before His Passing

## AJ McLean Reflects on Liam Payne’s Unreleased Work

AJ McLean, a member of the Backstreet Boys, is one of the few individuals who had the opportunity to listen to some music that Liam Payne was crafting before his tragic passing in October 2024. The two artists developed a strong bond during their collaboration on the Netflix series *Building the Band*. In a recent chat with *Today*, McLean shared insights into the unreleased songs Payne had shared with him.

### A Sweet Trust

“He was incredibly charming, witty, and funny. He sent me an unreleased body of work to gather my thoughts on it—and I never disclosed that,” McLean remarked. “It was truly touching that he would confide in someone he was still getting to know.” He went on to praise the quality of the music, expressing hope that it would eventually reach fans. “It’s beautiful, beautiful music.”

### Liam’s Last Releases

In March 2024, Payne launched the single *Teardrops*, intended for his second studio album. Collaborating with *NSYNC* member JC Chasez, he described this upcoming record as a reflection of his emotions over the past year. “Each track represents a moment from those days. My goal is to help people navigate tough times or celebrate their joy,” Payne shared before the release.

Sadly, *Teardrops* became Payne’s last musical offering. He passed away on October 16 at just 31, following a tragic fall from his hotel room’s balcony. Shortly after his death, musician Sam Pounds revealed plans to unveil their collective track, *Do No Wrong*, but later postponed it, stating, “It’s not the time yet.”

### A Posthumous Tribute

The premiere of *Making the Band* next week will mark Liam Payne’s first posthumous appearance. Netflix had previously halted production when he was announced as a judge. The series is set for a three-part release this month, with the initial four episodes available on July 9, three more on July 16, and the final set on July 23.

McLean characterized Payne as “well spoken, very encouraging, and refreshingly honest,” noting that he communicated with genuine heartfelt emotions.

### Family and Legacy

Recently, Payne’s sister, Ruth Gibbins, acknowledged his contributions following the series trailer’s release. “I wasn’t sure if I should share this, but I felt compelled after celebrating Liam’s achievements for the past 15 years,” she expressed on Instagram. “I’m heartbroken he never witnessed how amazing he is in this show. We all told him he did well during filming, but watching it back is something else.”

She concluded with a touching tribute: “You were a star, Liam—you always will be. The emotions I felt while watching varied, but above all, there’s immense pride. I miss you more every day.”

What are your thoughts on Liam Payne’s music and his lasting impact on fans and the music industry?
