Explore the Depths: Dinesh Vijan Teases More Than the Trailer in ‘Thamma’
Insights from Dinesh Vijan on “Thamma”
In a recent discussion, Dinesh Vijan, the producer of “Thamma,” a vampire love story, emphasized that the film’s trailer merely scratches the surface of what viewers can expect. He described it as a glimpse of an iceberg, hinting at the depth of the story to be revealed.
During a media preview, Vijan and the cast, including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal, showcased 20 minutes of footage from the film.
“What you see in the trailer is just the beginning,” Vijan stated, emphasizing their desire to hold back on revealing too much. “We wanted to give a sneak peek into the first 20 minutes of the movie.”
Rooted in Culture
Vijan shared his motivation behind incorporating vampire romance into Maddock’s expanding “Horrorverse,” which started with the hit film “Stree” in 2018. He believes that India’s rich folklore has always included supernatural beings akin to vampires.
“Our culture is ancient; ‘Stree’ is based in Chanderi, ‘Bhediya’ in Arunachal Pradesh, and ‘Munjya’ in Konkan. Before the concept of Western vampires existed, we had our versions,” he said, reflecting on the film’s cultural significance.
The Storyline
This new film, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, follows Khurrana’s character Alok, a journalist who inadvertently uncovers a world of vampires, including the enigmatic Tadaka, portrayed by Mandanna, and a frightening vampire played by Siddiqui.
Khurrana discussed the complexities of embodying his role as a journalist and vampire. “As a group, we are naturally curious, but portraying a betaal was a unique challenge. I faced a lot of physical action, including falling off mountains and being dragged by bears,” he elaborated.
Rashmika Mandanna also relished the opportunity to engage in action scenes. “I’ve never performed this much action before, and it was exhilarating!” she exclaimed.
Balancing Elements
Siddiqui highlighted the team’s trust in their director while navigating the blend of horror and comedy. “We approached the sets with fresh perspectives, and every detail was skillfully crafted,” he shared.
Paresh Rawal, playing Alok’s suspicious father, discussed his willingness to tackle the horror genre. “I usually shy away from horror, believing it centers solely on ghosts. However, this script has a significant focus on family dynamics and depth,” he noted.
To conclude this event, Khurrana collaborated with singer Soumyadeep Sarkar to perform the romantic track “Rahein Na Rahein Hum,” followed by a lively performance alongside dancers for the song “Tum Mere Na Huye.”
With its intriguing premise and vibrant cast, “Thamma” promises to be a captivating addition to the horror genre. Are you excited to see how this vampire love story unfolds? Share your thoughts!
