Konkana Sen Sharma Supports Deepika Padukone’s Call for 8-Hour Shifts
Konkona Sen Sharma advocates for an 8-hour workday in the film industry.
In light of recent discussions regarding Deepika Padukone’s departure from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s *Spirit* and Nag Ashwin’s *Kalki 2898 AD*, the conversation about fixed working hours for actors has gained traction. Numerous actors have rallied in support of Deepika’s request for an eight-hour work shift. Recently, Konkona Sen Sharma expressed her alignment with this demand in an interview.
Konkona Sen Sharma Supports 8-Hour Work Shifts
Konkona stressed the necessity of humane working hours within the film industry. She pointed out, “I believe there should be humane working hours across the board. We are not neurosurgeons dealing with life-and-death situations. While it’s vital for investors to recoup their funds, it’s equally crucial to remember that we are working with people who require breaks.”
She added that although flexibility can happen during shoot days, there should be a structured approach to working hours. “We need breaks from time to time. We occasionally agree to 12-hour shifts that often extend to 14 or 15 hours. However, having regulated hours and at least one day off weekly would enhance productivity,” she noted.
Following Deepika Padukone’s leave from *Spirit*, rumors circulated about her request for an eight-hour shift, which she felt needed to be implemented. Ultimately, this led to her replacement by Triptii Dimri.
Behind the Scenes of Deepika Padukone’s Controversy
Reports suggested that after Deepika asked for a seven-hour workday and additional pay for extra hours, she was met with backlash. Many perceived remarks from the filmmakers as derogatory towards her professionalism.
In a recent discussion, Deepika emphasized that male counterparts in the industry have benefited from similar schedules without receiving the same level of criticism. “It’s well known that many male actors work limited hours during weekdays and don’t work weekends. If my request for an 8-hour workday is deemed ‘pushy,’ then so be it,” she remarked.
