On World Mental Health Day, celebrated on October 10, actress Deepika Padukone proudly announced her role as the first-ever Mental Health Ambassador appointed by India’s Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. She took to social media to share the news and expressed feeling “deeply honoured” by the recognition.

Mental Health Advocacy

In her announcement, Deepika shared an image alongside JP Nadda and Punya Salila Srivastava. Her caption read, “On World Mental Health Day, I am honored to take up the role of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s first Mental Health Ambassador.”

She went on to highlight steps taken by the government to prioritize mental health, mentioning her own journey and experiences with The Live Laugh Love Foundation, which she founded to raise awareness about mental health issues.

Deepika concluded by expressing her eagerness to collaborate with Shri JP Nadda and the Ministry to enhance India’s mental health framework.

In a gesture of support, her husband, Ranveer Singh, commented, “So proud of you 👏🏽 ❤️”.

Background on Mental Health Advocacy

Deepika has been an influential advocate for mental health for years. After seeking help for her own struggles with depression, she initiated The Live Laugh Love Foundation in 2015 to promote awareness and facilitate conversations surrounding mental health.

On the cinematic front, Deepika was recently featured in “Singham Again,” directed by Rohit Shetty. The film boasted a stellar cast, including Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, and more, and it grossed ₹372 crore globally.
