Anupam Kher Emphasizes the Value of Second Chances with ‘Tanvi The Great’ Re-Release

Anupam Kher Discusses the Value of Second Chances
Mumbai, Actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher firmly believes in the power of second chances. This conviction is driving the re-release of his film, “Tanvi The Great,” which is set to hit theaters once more on September 26.
Featuring debutant Shubhangi Dutt, the movie marks Kher’s return to directing, having last directed in 2002 with “Om Jai Jagdish.” The film tells the touching story of a young autistic woman who strives to fulfill her late father’s dream of honoring the Indian flag at Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield.
“Second chances are vital in life. While we may face disappointment the first time, hope is essential,” Kher expressed in an interview with PTI.
The film originally premiered in theaters in July and will be making a comeback in 17 to 20 cities.
Kher shared plans for a cautious release strategy, stating, “One show at a time. Then we’ll gauge the response. The risk is limited to one week, while the rewards can potentially last ten weeks.”
Reflecting on the film’s initial box office results, Kher admitted, “I felt disheartened and even shed tears. It’s tough when hard work doesn’t yield the anticipated results. However, persistence is key.”
The movie faced tough competition from Mohit Suri’s “Saiyaara,” which saw remarkable success, grossing over ₹560 crore.
Kher noted, “Nobody foresaw ‘Saiyaara’s’ success. Even Adi Chopra and Mohit Suri were surprised.” He added, “I’m genuinely thrilled for their achievement.”
Highlighting his commitment to nurturing new talents, Kher mentioned, “I have deep affection for both Ahaan and Aneet. At my acting school, I remain attuned to the aspirations of newcomers.”
Kher is excited to give “Tanvi” another chance because it resonated positively with audiences from around the globe, including actor Robert De Niro, who attended the film’s premiere in New York.
Kher reflected, “I refuse to lose hope. My 40-year journey in the industry includes both triumphs and setbacks. The focus used to be on the film’s artistic value rather than merely box office numbers.”
“We’ve made a beautiful film that received acclaim, and I believe it deserves one more opportunity,” he stated.
The actor, known for his extensive portfolio of over 400 films, shared that “Tanvi” was screened for audiences including students from D.A.V. School, where he studied.
It’s crucial for Shubhangi to receive an additional opportunity, Kher remarked. “Today’s youth often face immediate feedback on social media, which can be discouraging. This re-release allows everyone who supported the film to experience it once again.”
Shubhangi expressed gratitude for another chance to showcase her talent in “Tanvi,” viewing the project as a “significant blessing.” She remarked, “Anupam sir’s perspective on life is inspirational. He teaches resilience despite challenges.”
Kher praised Shubhangi’s performance, noting De Niro described her acting as “terrific.” He stated, “For many actors, it would take years to earn such recognition from an icon like him.”
Shubhangi recalled feeling emotional hearing De Niro’s compliments. “I never imagined I would experience this during my debut film,” she stated, emphasizing her positive journey throughout the project.
Kher mentioned that Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment is the film’s worldwide distributor, and discussions are underway regarding its digital release in the future.
“I’m stubborn about closure for this film,” Kher concluded. “I’m willing to invest further if necessary. I want to inspire others with this story.”
