Fashion Designer Anthony Rubio Presents the 2024 Pet Gala
Fashion designer Anthony Rubio has introduced a delightful spin on the iconic Met Gala for 2024, reimagining it as the Pet Gala. This charming event featured dogs showcasing fashionable ensembles, adding a playful twist to the traditional gala.
A Canine Red Carpet Experience
On May 20th, as pedestrians strolled along Park Avenue in New York City, they were met with an extraordinary sight: dogs strutting their stuff on a red carpet outside the AKC Museum of the Dog. Rubio’s annual fundraising event, the Pet Gala, involved recreating looks from this year’s Met Gala specifically for our furry friends.
“I take meticulous notes and photos while watching the Met Gala each year,” Rubio shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Once the event wraps up, I jot down the standout garments.” This dedication allows him to translate high fashion into stylish dog attire.
Celebrating Dogs and Designers
Rubio emphasized the importance of honoring both the canine models and the designers featured at the Met Gala. “This is a celebration of dogs and the incredible fashion presented at the Met Gala. It’s a serious endeavor, not just for laughs,” he explained.
Inspired by the theme of this year’s Met Gala, “The Garden of Time,” Rubio designed outfits for 18 dogs. Notable looks included a chihuahua inspired by one of Zendaya’s John Galliano outfits, a Pomeranian dressed in a style reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez, and a poodle styled in a pet version of Bad Bunny’s Margiela suit.
Highlights from the 2024 Pet Gala
The event spotlighted a variety of fashionable pups. A Pomeranian dazzled in a baby blue ensemble echoing Ed Sheeran’s Stella McCartney suit, while a Chorkie impressed in a rendition of Cardi B’s dramatic black gown.

Craftsmanship and Timing
In a remarkable display of creativity, Rubio crafted each outfit between May 6th and May 20th. He revealed that he often worked late into the night, pulling an all-nighter to put the final touches on these unique designs.
For the first time, the Pet Gala was hosted at the Museum of the Dog, promoting the museum’s mission while creating a vibrant runway show and dinner event.
A Unique Celebrity Experience
Dogs modeled alongside their human counterparts, who donned coordinating outfits for the runway show that followed. Posing against a beautiful floral backdrop, each model showcased their dog with pride, walking them on the red carpet.
The Pet Gala provided a unique blend of fashion and philanthropy, solidifying itself as a standout event in the world of canine couture.
