Chet Faker Returns with New Music
Chet Faker has made a much-anticipated comeback with fresh tunes. His new single, “Far Side of the Moon,” marks Nick Murphy’s first release under the Chet Faker name since his 2023 track, “Something Like This.”
A Heartfelt Journey
The latest song is a poignant exploration of heartbreak, conveying the struggles of giving too much to a loved one. As Murphy shares, “It’s about stretching yourself too thin for someone you love to the point where it’s not healthy for the relationship at all.”
An engaging video accompanies the track, showcasing Murphy as he performs in a recording booth, enveloped by layers of sound distortion. You can check it out below.
Celebrating a Milestone
In the previous year, Faker released a special anniversary edition of his influential debut album, Built on Glass, lending a fresh perspective to this iconic record. Originally launched on April 11, 2014, the album swiftly gained recognition as one of the most significant Australian debut records of the 2010s.
Hailing from Melbourne, Built on Glass comprises 12 tracks, featuring popular hits like “Gold” and “Talk Is Cheap,” the latter of which topped Triple J’s Hottest 100. This album earned Faker five ARIA Awards, solidifying his status as a leading figure in Australia’s R&B-influenced electronic music scene.
Awards and Recognition
In 2014, Faker was honored with multiple ARIA Awards for Built on Glass, including Best Male Artist, and won Australian Album of the Year at the J Awards.
Reflecting on the importance of the album, Faker stated, “Built on Glass was an important record for me, so I’m excited to finally repress it with this expanded edition and share several unreleased recordings from that era. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate 10 years than to play the record in full in my hometown Melbourne in the Botanic Gardens – something I haven’t done before.”
Recent Works
Faker’s last album, Hotel Surrender, was released in 2021 and achieved impressive rankings, reaching the top 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Additionally, he introduced Take in the Roses that year under the name Nick Murphy & The Program.
