Seungkwan Shares JYP Rejection and Camp Memories with TWICE's Jihyo

SEVENTEEN and TWICE, both influential K-pop groups, have cultivated a remarkable friendship over the last decade. They debuted in 2015, sharing a unique bond that has grown stronger over the years. During Jihyo’s milestone celebration in the K-pop scene, Seungkwan took the opportunity to reminisce about his first experiences with JYP Entertainment, the company that manages TWICE, and to share how he and Mingyu became friends with Jihyo.

Seungkwan’s JYP Audition Experience

Seungkwan humorously recounted his audition experience with JYP Entertainment. He expressed a bit of envy toward Jihyo, who successfully passed her audition at the agency. As Jihyo revealed that she joined JYP as an acting trainee in 2005, Seungkwan playfully interrupted, saying, “I’m jealous. I actually failed my JYP audition in 2010.”

He also mentioned that JYP was the only agency to conduct auditions in Jeju Island, which motivated him to try out. In a lighthearted manner, he shared that his feelings of jealousy gradually turned into friendship as he interacted more with the TWICE members.

Building Bonds through Camping

Seungkwan shared that his friendship with Jihyo wasn’t instant; it developed over time. He recalled a specific camping trip initiated by Mingyu, which brought them closer together. “Mingyu invited me to hang out at a campsite managed by Jihyo’s parents. That’s when I got to know her younger siblings, too,” he shared.

This camping experience served as an avenue for deeper connections, marking the beginning of a long-lasting friendship. The recent 20th-anniversary event showcased fun moments between K-pop artists across different agencies, with notable attendees like TWICE’s Nayeon and Jeongyeon, GOT7’s BamBam, and DAY6’s Sungjin.
