Harvey Sutherland Unveils Exciting New Album Titled 'Debt'

Harvey Sutherland is making waves again with fresh music.

The talented producer, DJ, and musician hailing from Melbourne recently announced his upcoming album, Debt, set to release on Friday, October 10th, through his own label, Clarity Recordings.

In addition to the album reveal, Sutherland has released the lead single “Body Language,” featuring Julian Hamilton from The Presets.

Reflecting on the track, Sutherland noted that it was among the first songs created for the album. “I had these chords floating around for a year or so. I played them for Jules during a writing session at his place in Sydney. He quickly came up with a great melody. I kept hearing the words ‘reading your body language’ in his early phrases, so we continued building on that. I believe it’s the true moment of in-person collaboration on this album — it felt great to do things the traditional way with one of Australia’s exceptional songwriters.”

Hamilton shared his excitement: “I’ve always been a massive fan of Mike’s work. We spent a couple of days in my studio in Sydney and crafted a few tracks together. It was super easy and enjoyable – that joy is apparent in ‘Body Language.’ I’m so proud of this song and can’t wait for everyone to hear it. Big love to Mike!”

Debt marks Sutherland’s first full-length album since his debut in 2022, Boy. The new album explores the challenges of music production in the digital age and distills his disco-inspired sound into ten tracks of microhouse and funk.

Upcoming Tour Dates

To celebrate the album, Sutherland will embark on a tour across Australia with an exciting live performance. Upcoming dates include:

  • Saturday, November 8th: La La Land, Brisbane, QLD
  • Friday, November 14th: The Night Cat, Melbourne, VIC

Harvey Sutherland, whose real name is Mike Katz, gained recognition in Melbourne’s electronic music scene with his cult dance tracks. He has collaborated with various notable artists including Disclosure, Khruangbin, and Chromeo. Additionally, Sutherland has toured with acts like Hot Chip, Maribou State, and Carly Rae Jepsen, and contributed to the production of Genesis Owusu’s album, Smiling With No Teeth.

His debut album, Boy, received critical acclaim, securing two ARIA nominations and winning the award for Best Electronic Work at the Music Victoria Awards. It was also nominated for the Australian Music Prize and reached #2 on the ARIA Dance Album chart.
