Celina Jaitly Opens Up on Delhi HC Ruling About Soldier Brother’s Detention
Celina Jaitly shares an emotional message regarding her brother, Retired Major Vikrant Jaitly, who has been held in the UAE for nearly one year.
Recently, the Delhi High Court brought a sense of hope to the family of Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has faced detention in the UAE for over a year. His sister, former actress Celina Jaitly, expressed her heartfelt reaction on social media after the court ordered the Government of India to submit a status report and assigned a nodal officer to assist the family.
Celina’s attorney described the court’s ruling as a favorable outcome that could lead to Major Vikrant’s safe return to India. Later that evening, Celina shared a heartfelt note on X (formerly Twitter), titled “Standing for a Soldier: A Ray of Hope from the Delhi High Court in Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly’s Case.”
Celina’s heartfelt message for her brother
In her post, Celina shared a collage featuring her brother, including one of him in uniform. She wrote, “I express my gratitude as I stand at the gates of the esteemed Delhi High Court. After an arduous 14 months, I have finally found a glimmer of hope. The High Court has heard my writ petition regarding my brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly.”
She elaborated on the court’s decision to appoint a nodal officer to facilitate communication and support. Major Vikrant, a veteran from the 3 Para Special Forces, has spent nine months in detention in the UAE.
‘For a year, I have searched for answers’
Celina continued, “You have fought for us, brother; now it’s our turn to stand by you. For a year, I have been searching for answers on your behalf. I continue to pray that our government will fight for you and bring you back safely. I trust only the Government of India to protect this fourth-generation soldier, who has dedicated his life to serving our nation and holds the COAS Commendation for Gallantry.”
She highlighted that many soldiers face similar predicaments overseas and urged the government to intervene. “Indian soldiers abroad face unjust targeting for reasons unknown. I implore my government to provide the necessary support and protection for our defenders as I navigate this challenging journey.”
Celina concluded her message by requesting privacy from the media and directed all inquiries to her legal team.
Background on Celina’s brother’s detention in the UAE
Vikrant Jaitly has lived in the UAE since 2016, where he was employed by the MATITI Group, focusing on trading and consultancy services. Specifics regarding his detention remain unclear.
During a recent hearing, the Centre’s lawyer, Nidhi Raman, mentioned to the Delhi High Court that Vikrant had been arrested in connection with an unspecified case, adding that communication with his wife had been established.
In her plea, Celina revealed that despite her brother’s prolonged detention, she had not received essential information regarding his legal standing or welfare. She also claimed that no phone communication had been facilitated for them.
After considering the arguments, the Delhi High Court directed, “The relevant parties must undertake steps to ensure effective legal representation regarding his detention. Additionally, efforts should be made to facilitate contact between the petitioner and her brother. A nodal officer has been appointed.”
