Adivi Sesh Discusses Dacoit's Box Office Rivalry with Yash's Toxic

Adivi Sesh opens up on Dacoit’s box office clash with Yash’s Toxic: ‘Have made a career being the underdog’ | Exclusive

Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit is set to hit theaters on the same day as Yash’s Toxic – March 19, 2026. The actor shares insights about the upcoming clash and the film.

Adivi Sesh’s bilingual film, *Dacoit*, was announced over a year ago, originally planned for a December release. However, an injury led to a postponed shooting schedule. Now, the release is slated for March 2026, coinciding with the release of Yash’s much-anticipated film, *Toxic*. In an exclusive chat, Sesh discusses the delay, the strategic release date, and his calmness about the box office competition.

Addressing the Delay of Dacoit

The production of *Dacoit* will extend nearly two years by its release. On this lengthy timeline, Sesh shares, “I tend to take my time with films. Previously, I wasn’t well-known, so the timing didn’t matter. After *Major*, some thought the delays were due to Covid-19. My process usually takes around two years, but this time an injury required additional healing time.”

*Dacoit* was initially set for a December 25 release, but due to the injury, the new date poses an intriguing box office challenge alongside Yash’s *Toxic* on March 19, 2026, a date that also coincides with Ugadi.

‘Clash is More of a Media Narrative’

When discussing the release clash, Sesh remarks, “Films released on the same day can succeed together. I recall how *Lagaan* and *Gadar* both released on the same date and each became classics. The media often exaggerates these rivalries. Ultimately, audiences want to enjoy a good movie.”

He recalls his own past experience, noting, “My film *Major* succeeded even when clashing with *Samrat Prithviraj*. If a film resonates, it will connect with its audience.” With Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, and Eid aligning on that weekend, he sees it as a festive opportunity.

Despite downplaying the competition, Sesh acknowledges the significance of facing off against *Toxic*, one of the year’s most awaited films featuring Yash. Reflecting on being an underdog, he recalls the 2018 battle between *KGF* and Shah Rukh Khan’s *Zero*, stating, “*KGF* was an underdog and it reshaped perceptions. I take pride in being an underdog myself.”

On Dacoit’s Bilingual Nature

Sesh reveals they considered shifting the release date but ultimately decided that launching on Ugadi could maximize audience reach. He comments, “*Dacoit* is genuine to both Hindi and Telugu, as scenes were filmed in both languages. The timing coincides with significant celebrations, creating an ideal premiere context.”

Filming in two languages presents challenges; Sesh emphasizes the importance of cultural authenticity. “We strive to ensure the films resonate in their native languages, focusing on accurate humor and context,” he explains.

Directed by Shaneil Deo, *Dacoit* stars Anurag Kashyap, Prakash Raj, along with Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. On the other hand, *Toxic*, directed by Geetu Mohandas, features Yash alongside stars like Tovino Thomas and Nayanthara. Both films are set to premiere on March 19, 2026.
