Improvised Cheek-Pulling Scene
A fan shared a clip from the film on X, expressing envy over Gulshan’s interaction with Rukmini, which led the actor to clarify that the cheek pull was consensual and improvised. “This was unscripted. I improvised this during rehearsal & Rishab laughed out loud. We kept it in the final take,” he noted.
Addressing Consent Concerns
Despite his clarifications, some users on X raised concerns, suggesting that improvisation implied a lack of consent. Gulshan responded directly, stating, “We are both professional actors playing siblings in the film, and of course, it was done with consent.” He emphasized that consent is fundamental in all his working relationships.
Further defending himself, Gulshan added, “It’s crucial to understand that ‘improvisation’ does not always mean spontaneity. I am proud to be a professional and always prioritize consent with my co-actors.”
Furthermore, he reflected on a lesson learned during filming the 2011 movie *Shaitan*, implying it had shaped his approach to consent on set.
*Kantara Chapter 1* continues to perform well in theatres, having grossed over ₹834.25 crore globally. This film is also available for streaming on Prime Video in various South Indian languages.
