Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Haq’ Faces Legal Action from Shah Bano’s Family
Shah Bano’s legal heirs have moved the Indore High Court for a stay on the release of “HAQ,” which is set to premiere on November 7.
The family of Shah Bano Begum has filed a petition in the Indore High Court, requesting a stay on the imminent release of “HAQ,” featuring Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in leading roles.
Represented by advocate Tousif Warsi, the heirs argue that the film disrespects the sentiments of the Muslim community and presents Sharia law in a negative light. Furthermore, they assert that the filmmakers failed to obtain permission from Shah Bano’s heirs to portray her life.
The court is anticipated to hear the case soon. The filmmakers are represented by Hitesh Jain and Ameet Naik from Parinam Law and Naik & Naik, respectively.
Despite the positive reception of the film’s trailer, “HAQ” has sparked significant public discourse as its release date approaches.
Previously, “India Today” reported that the legal heirs sent a notice to the creators, demanding a halt in the film’s release, claiming it represented Shah Bano’s life without consent, thereby constituting defamation.
Advocate Tousif Z. Warsi emphasized that, because Shah Bano’s story is depicted in the film—which runs over two hours—it’s crucial for her legal heirs to know how her life events are portrayed before its release.
