Mamta Kulkarni Faces Backlash Over Controversial Statement about Dawood Ibrahim

Recently, former actress Mamta Kulkarni ignited a significant controversy by making statements that appeared to absolve notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim of his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, for which he is a prime suspect. Her declaration that he “is not a terrorist” led to widespread outrage.

Mamta Kulkarni’s statement on Dawood Ibrahim sparked a row.

In the wake of significant backlash, Kulkarni later clarified that her remarks were misunderstood.

Clarifying Her Position

During a press conference in Gorakhpur, Mamta stated, “Dawood Ibrahim did not carry out the Mumbai blasts and is not a terrorist.” This statement provoked negative reactions across social media platforms, with many calling her out for providing a defense for Ibrahim, who is linked to a tragedy that resulted in 257 deaths and over a thousand injuries.

Dawood Ibrahim has been evading authorities since the late 1980s, believed to be residing in Karachi.

Revising her Statements

In response to the criticism, Kulkarni offered a retraction, claiming, “I was referring to Vicky Goswami, not Dawood Ibrahim. Dawood is indeed a terrorist.” Goswami, who has been linked to the actress, has a history of drug trafficking.

Additionally, she emphasized her disconnect from both the film industry and political associations: “I am completely devoted to spirituality. As a follower of Sanatan Dharma, I cannot associate with anti-national elements.”

A Glimpse into Her Career

Mamta Kulkarni was a prominent figure in Bollywood during the early to mid-1990s. She appeared in several popular films, including *Krantiveer*, *Karan Arjun*, and *China Gate*. However, she left the film industry in 2002. In a surprising turn of events, she was implicated in a ₹2000 crore international drug racket in 2016, but charges against her were eventually dropped in 2024 by the Bombay High Court.
