Florence and the Machine’s Enchanting Cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Abracadabra’
Florence and the Machine delivered an enchanting Halloween-inspired performance during their recent visit to SiriusXM. Accompanied by a beautiful harp, Florence Welch skillfully blended her 2015 track “Which Witch” with Lady Gaga’s hit “Abracadabra.”
Welch kicked things off with a nod to her song from How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, seamlessly transitioning into the evocative melodies of Gaga’s track, which featured a captivating fiddle-flute arrangement. The performance wrapped up with a return to “Which Witch,” leaving the audience spellbound.
Timing and Connections
The timing of the performance was serendipitous. On the same night, during her Mayhem Ball Tour stop in Barcelona, Lady Gaga surprised fans by singing “Hey Girl,” her duet with Welch from the 2016 album Joanne. It marked the first time Gaga performed the song live.
Welch’s Admiration for Gaga
In a recent interview, Welch expressed her profound admiration for Gaga’s earlier work. “In 2009, I was only listening to Lady Gaga, that was it,” she shared during a chat with Triple J, reflecting on the impact of Gaga’s music on her life.
Gaga has also praised Welch over the years. During their collaborative time, Gaga remarked, “Florence and I, when we were working together, we laughed, we cried, we hugged each other,” emphasizing Welch’s extraordinary talent. In a subsequent interview on Heat Radio, Gaga said, “Her voice is sensational. She’s one of the greatest singers in the world.”
New Music on the Horizon
Welch’s appearance at SiriusXM comes as she actively promotes Florence and the Machine’s upcoming album, Everybody Scream, set to release this Friday. This album follows their 2022 release, Dance Fever, and continues to showcase the band’s distinctive sound.
