Farah Khan Responds to Outsiders’ Anger Over Bollywood’s Nepotism Debate
Filmmaker Farah Khan resonates with the frustrations felt by outsiders regarding Bollywood’s ‘nepo babies’.
Farah Khan, a prominent filmmaker and choreographer, has shared her own journey through financial hurdles. Despite her success, she empathizes with those from outside the film industry who feel bitter towards star children. In a recent podcast with Sania Mirza, she discussed her childhood adversities and the lasting impact on her perspective about money.
Understanding the Outsiders’ Anger
During the podcast, Khan reflected on the social dynamics within Bollywood and how financial insecurity influences her life. “Even today, I feel insecure about money. I need to achieve financial security to relax. This drive to work harder continues to propel me,” she stated, emphasizing her motivation stems from a challenging upbringing.
Highlighting societal trends, she noted, “Today, everyone seems to crave a struggle story, often fabricating their narratives. I’m grateful that my children won’t have to create one.”
Farah further elaborated that she understands the resentment held by many outsiders towards nepo babies, as their struggles often seem trivial in comparison. “I get why people feel angry when they see star kids living comfortably while they are struggling,” she added.
Farah Khan’s Journey
Despite a challenging upbringing, Farah’s passion for dance drove her towards success. Without formal training, she honed her skills by studying dance videos. Her big break came when she choreographed the iconic song “Pehla Nasha” from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar in 1992, gaining her widespread recognition.
Her directorial debut with Main Hoon Na in 2004 marked her ascent as one of Bollywood’s well-respected filmmakers. Over the years, she topped the charts with films like Om Shanti Om and Happy New Year, establishing her as a multifaceted and successful figure in the industry.
