In a statement to *Pitchfork* in 2022, Butler admitted to having extramarital relationships but insisted they were consensual. “I have never touched a woman against her will, and any implication that I have is simply false,” he stated. “While these relationships were consensual, I apologize to anyone I have hurt.”
