Aditya Pancholi’s Subtle Jab at Anil Kapoor Over Tezaab Casting Changes

Aditya Pancholi reflects on his experience being replaced in Tezaab.

On October 27, actor Aditya Pancholi shared a post on X about how he was initially set to star in the iconic 1988 film, *Tezaab*, which helped elevate Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit to fame. Accompanying a nostalgic black-and-white image, he noted: “I was the original choice for Tezaab (1988), opposite @MadhuriDixit. Director N. Chandra, still around, can confirm this.”

Aditya Pancholi reflects on being replaced in ‘Tezaab’ by an actor with an influential brother.

Aditya further elaborated that his replacement was not a mere coincidence. “Unfortunately, another actor, through his elder brother (who remains influential in the industry), persuaded the director to select him instead. The rest is indeed history.” This post sparked an array of reactions, with many speculating that the actor in question referred to was Anil Kapoor, with Boney Kapoor being the influential brother.

One comment highlighted the tendency of the mentioned actor to lobby for roles, recalling an incident where he allegedly tried to undermine Naseeruddin Shah’s presence in *Parinda*. Aditya’s response was brief but telling: “Kuch baatein ankahi rehne dein.”

Comments continued with users indicating that he was clearly discussing Anil Kapoor while also mentioning karma’s role in the industry. Aditya took the opportunity to address broader dynamics within Bollywood, stating, “I recently saw an actor discussing nepotism during his film promotions. However, let me clarify—politics in the industry extends beyond nepotism. Favouritism and manipulation often play a larger role in shaping careers than merely family connections.”

A fan also pointed out Aditya’s collaboration with Anil Kapoor in *Musafir*, bringing up the *Trimurti* controversy, to which Aditya hinted there was much more to discuss, saying, “I’ll write about Trimurti another time. Thanks.”

While several fans supported Aditya’s claims, others defended the Kapoor brothers, noting their hard work to achieve success in the ’80s. One remarked that it was unjust to suggest Boney influenced Anil’s casting, stating, “You’re a good actor, but you lacked that relatable charm needed for such roles.”

Another user commented, “The film wouldn’t have been the same with you as the lead. You had your opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on them.” Directed by N. Chandra, *Tezaab* eventually became one of the biggest hits of 1988.
