Yami Gautam responds to ‘nationalist’ label over film selections: “It’s up to them”
Yami Gautam Discusses the ‘Nationalist Actor’ Label
In a recent trailer launch for her upcoming film *Haq*, Yami Gautam addressed being labeled as a “nationalist actor” due to her film selections. This reflects her broader choices in projects like *Lost*, *Article 370*, *Uri: The Surgical Strike,* and *A Thursday*.
Yami’s Perspective on Labels
While speaking at the launch, Yami expressed surprise at this labeling. She humorously noted that such tags keep changing over time. “If there’s a label, I don’t know. People will always find something to say. It shifts constantly, and I don’t really pay attention to it,” she commented.
She emphasized that the opportunities she is getting are vital narratives with their own importance. “We are in the entertainment business, which caters to diverse audiences,” Yami explained. “Our aim is to connect varied groups by presenting fresh stories.”
Respecting Audience Interpretation
Yami respects all perspectives her audience may have about her films. “If you enjoy the story, it’s a good film. If you interpret it differently, that’s valid too. It’s essential to understand that every viewer has a unique interpretation,” she articulated.
Upcoming Project
Yami is also set to appear in the film *Haq*, where she stars with Emraan Hashmi. Inspired by the 1985 Shah Bano case, the film includes a talented cast featuring Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, and Sheeba Chadha. Directed by Suparn S Varma, *Haq* is poised for release on November 7.
