Director Amar Kaushik discusses Aneet Padda’s casting in Shakti Shalini
On October 21, a new film from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe premiered in theaters. This film, titled Thamma, is the fifth installment in the popular series that began with Stree in 2018. Featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, the vampire rom-com delighted audiences, especially with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s standout performance. However, a significant highlight of Thamma was the announcement of Shakti Shalini, starring Aneet Padda, recognized for her role in Saiyaara.
Prior to the release of Saiyaara, there was speculation that Kiara Advani would be cast in Shakti Shalini. Recently, however, it was confirmed that Aneet would take on the role. In an interview, co-creator and director Amar Kaushik explained their choice: “When we were writing the script, we realized that we needed a younger actor. After watching her in Saiyaara, we knew she was a perfect fit for the character.”
Amar, who directed both Stree and its sequel, Stree 2, mentioned that filming for Shakti Shalini is set to begin in January 2026. This film marks a pivotal moment in Aneet’s Bollywood career.
When questioned about future releases from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, Amar noted, “We plan to release just one film next year to avoid overwhelming the audience with too many projects in a short span.”
