Greta Lee to Leave ‘The Morning Show’

Greta Lee, known for her role in “Past Lives,” will depart from the popular Apple TV series “The Morning Show.” In the show, she portrays Stella Bak, a high-ranking executive at a news network.

The series, featuring stars like Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, delves into the intricate relationships within a morning news program. Lee’s character is the president of UBA’s news division and leads a team targeting a younger demographic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee joined the Emmy-winning series in its second season and is set to leave during its fourth season.

Character Departure and Emotional Farewell

“I was intrigued by Stella as someone immersed in the tech world, seeing it as a powerful tool,” said Charlotte Stoudt, the showrunner. “We wanted to explore what happens when technology forces introspection.”

In a pivotal storyline, Stella leaves the media company after her affair becomes public, culminating in an ambiguous exit on a flight.

“It was very emotional,” Stoudt shared. “Saying goodbye to her was tough, but Stella needed to embark on a journey of self-discovery away from UBN.”

Lee confirmed, “This is it. I know it’s shocking. It feels surreal to say goodbye to her after being part of this journey for so long.”

Balancing Life and Projects

Managing various projects along with motherhood made it increasingly difficult for Lee to continue on “The Morning Show.” “With upcoming films and my family commitments, it felt like the right moment for Stella to evolve,” she reflected.

In 2023, Lee captivated audiences as Nora in Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” a story about an emotional reunion between childhood sweethearts.
