Mariah Carey Named 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year: A True Icon
Mariah Carey Honored with MusiCares Person of the Year Award
Mariah Carey, although not being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet again, has a significant accolade on the horizon. She has been named the recipient of the prestigious MusiCares Person of the Year award for the upcoming year. This annual honor has previously celebrated icons like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, and even the late Quincy Jones.
Ceremony Details
The award ceremony is set for January 30 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. According to MusiCares executive director Theresa Woltres, Carey embodies the values central to MusiCares, which aims to uplift music professionals and their communities. It’s a fitting recognition, especially considering that the first MusiCares event in 1991 honored the late David Crosby, coinciding with the week when Carey herself won three Grammys for her debut album.
A Celebration of Musical Legacy
Harvey Mason Jr., the CEO of both the Recording Academy and MusiCares, expressed great respect for Carey. He stated that she is a “true creative force” and highlighted how her music has significantly influenced contemporary sound. The award night promises to be a celebration of her incredible journey as an artist.
Event Highlights
Taking place just two days prior to the 68th annual Grammy Awards, the gala serves as the organization’s primary fundraising event, raising crucial funds for disaster relief, addiction support, and various services aimed at assisting those in the music industry. Ticket prices start at $3,000, with a premium three-table package available for $225,000.
Mariah Carey is also known for her philanthropic efforts, such as Camp Mariah, which provides support to underprivileged children.
