The news agency ANI reported that Asrani passed away in Mumbai after a prolonged illness. His last rites took place at the Santacruz Crematorium. According to his manager, Babubhai Thiba, he passed away at 3 PM at Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, leaving behind his wife, sister, and nephew.

As reported by News18, Asrani sought a simple and dignified farewell. Despite his fame, he wished to be remembered as an ordinary person and had urged his wife to keep a low profile following his passing. Consequently, the funeral was private, and news of his death was shared only after cremation.

While Govardhan was a cherished public figure, his family life remained largely under wraps. Many may not know that his wife, Manju Asrani, formerly Manju Bansal, is also an actress. She appeared in films with iconic stars like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Navin Nischol during the 70s and 80s.

The couple’s love story began on the set of Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar (1973). Their friendship evolved into romance while shooting Namak Haraam (1973), featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. This blossoming partnership culminated in their marriage.

While some sources, like Navbharat Times, state that Govardhan and Manju had no children, others, including Wikipedia, suggest they have a son, Navin Asrani, who practices dentistry.
