Kayly Loh Embraces Positivity After Last-Minute Role Change: ‘Rejection is Redirection’
Imagine being all set to star in a project, only to find out right before filming begins that you’ve been replaced.
This situation might be disheartening for many, but for Mediacorp actress Kayly Loh, it became an opportunity for introspection and growth.
The 37-year-old recently shared an uplifting reel on Instagram, conveying a powerful message: “If you’re in a season of closed doors, read this: Rejection is redirection.”
In her post, Loh disclosed that she was informed just a week prior to filming that she would not be appearing in an unnamed drama.
Despite the abrupt news, she maintained a positive demeanor, expressing, “I’m not even mad about it.”
Facing Rejection with Resilience
Loh candidly shared how her perspective on rejection has evolved over time. A few years back, a similar experience left her feeling defeated.
“I had done my imaging, read the script, and received the call sheet… but then I learned I wasn’t the right fit,” she recounted. “What echoed in my mind was: ‘You’re not pretty enough, you’re not good enough, you don’t belong here.’ It sent me into a spiral.”
A Transformed Mindset
This time, however, Loh’s outlook is markedly different. “I didn’t even shrink. I didn’t even doubt myself,” she shared confidently, emphasizing the peace she now feels.
She expressed pride in recognizing that the recasting had nothing to do with her personal worth. “This isn’t about me or my talent; they’re just doing their jobs,” she noted.
Encouragement for Others
In concluding her post, Loh offered words of encouragement to anyone experiencing similar setbacks: “[Rejection] doesn’t define you – it refines you. Trust me, the stronger version of you on the other side is worth it.”
Her message struck a chord with many of her peers. Close friend and YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo remarked, “My baby girl. So strong! I love that about you, always!”
Fellow Mediacorp actor Benjamin Tan echoed her sentiments, sharing, “Omg needed this so badly today.”
The two continued to uplift each other, with Loh responding, “Sending lots of love and hugs! You are awesome, Ben!”
Tan replied, “You’re amazing, too. We jiayou,” a phrase used to cheer someone on, complete with a heart emoji.
