Govardhan Asrani, affectionately known as Asrani, passed away on Monday after a battle with illness at the age of 84. His final rites took place at Santacruz Crematorium.

Actor Akshay Kumar expressed profound sorrow following Asrani’s passing. The comedian, who shared the screen with Akshay in the upcoming film Haiwaan, filmed scenes just a week before his death. Akshay conveyed his feelings, stating he was left speechless.
On social media platform X, Akshay shared, “Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest of hugs last week during the shoot of Haiwaan.”
He further reminisced, stating, “He was a truly remarkable person, blessed with legendary comic timing. I learned so much from him through our collaborations in films like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. This is a significant loss to our industry. God bless you, Asrani Sir, for giving us countless reasons to laugh. Om Shanti.”
Legacy of Asrani
Asrani’s contributions to Bollywood will always be cherished. Known for his impeccable comic timing, he became a beloved figure over a prolific career spanning more than fifty years. His memorable role as the jail warden in the classic film Sholay remains particularly iconic.
Asrani passed away at Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Juhu, leaving behind his wife, sister, and nephew. His filmography includes over 350 movies, and he was last seen in productions such as Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan, both directed by Priyadarshan.
