The Kannada period drama began with enthusiastic reviews, opening to significant success domestically and achieving remarkable overseas collections, easily crossing the ₹700 crore worldwide milestone.

Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Update
As of Friday, the film surpassed the ₹700 crore benchmark, with a total worldwide collection of ₹717.50 crore within two weeks. The official announcement was made via a film poster shared on their X account, emphasizing the film’s remarkable achievements with the caption, “A divine storm at the box office. #KantaraChapter1 roars past 717.50 CRORES+ GBOC worldwide in 2 weeks.”
The film is also nearing ₹500 crore in India, having made ₹485.4 crore as of Thursday. Although there was an expected drop in collections during weekdays, a resurgence is anticipated with the upcoming Diwali holidays.
Kantara Chapter 1 Beats Gadar 2
By achieving its current success, Kantara Chapter 1 has now secured a spot among the top 20 highest-grossing Indian films to date, eclipsing the total earnings of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, which was ₹691.08 crore. It has already outstripped other recent hits, including Salman Khan’s Sultan (₹628 crore), SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali (₹650 crore), Rajinikanth’s Jailer (₹605 crore), and Vijay’s Leo (₹606 crore).
The film aims to catch up to Chhaava, which collected ₹808 crore. It remains to be seen if it can reach the coveted ₹1000-crore milestone.
Written and helmed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 serves as a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, which grossed ₹400 crore globally. Set a millennium before the original film, this sequel features a stellar cast including Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles.
