Roopa Ganguly Reflects on Pankaj Dheer’s Passing, Remembers His Charisma
Roopa Ganguly expressed her shock at Pankaj Dheer’s passing and praised him as the most handsome man on the set.
Renowned actress Roopa Ganguly, famously known for her role as Draupadi in the iconic Mahabharat, recently reflected on her late co-star Pankaj Dheer, who portrayed Karna. In a heartfelt conversation with NDTV, she referred to Pankaj as “the most handsome man on the set after Nitish Bharadwaj” and mentioned his reserved nature. Roopa also conveyed her sorrow over his untimely demise.

According to reports, Pankaj Dheer passed away at 68 after battling cancer. Roopa expressed her shock, stating she was unaware of his declining health. “I communicated with him via text about a year ago, but he never mentioned his illness,” she said, reminiscing about their years of sporadic communication.
Thoughts on Pankaj’s Handsomeness
Recalling their time on the sets of Mahabharat, Roopa said, “Pankaj Dheer was the most handsome man on the set after Nitish Bharadwaj. I used to text him calling him ‘my most handsome friend.’ He was well aware of the admiration for his looks. However, he was a gentleman—reserved and soft-spoken, unlike the more playful members of the cast,” she remarked.
Condolences and Final Rites
Pankaj Dheer was notably recognized for his roles in Mahabharat and other series like Chandrakanta. He was reported to have passed away early in the morning. Producer Ashoke Pandit noted that Pankaj had spent time in and out of the hospital during his illness. His last rites were held at the Pawan Hans crematorium, attended by prominent personalities such as Salman Khan and Sidharth Malhotra. He leaves behind his wife, Anita Dheer, and son, Nikitin Dheer, who is also an actor.

Following Mahabharat, Pankaj starred in numerous successful films like Sadak and Aashik Awara. He also appeared alongside well-known actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar in films including Baadshah and Andaz.
