Garbage Reveals 2025 Tour Dates in Australia and New Zealand Honoring Michael Gudinski

Garbage is making a much-anticipated return to Australia and New Zealand this December, marking their first headline tour down under in nearly ten years.

Frontier Touring has announced four shows in Auckland, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney, in addition to their participation in the Good Things Festival. This tour will feature remarkable theatre performances, culminating in a special finale at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.

Tour Highlights and Significance

This tour signifies the band’s first headline performances in Australia since 2016 and their inaugural visit to New Zealand since 2013. Their comeback follows the release of Let All That We Imagine Be the Light, their eighth studio album, which premiered in May. This album has allowed the group to embark on their first North American headline tour in a decade.

Shirley Manson’s Tribute

Frontwoman Shirley Manson expressed her excitement about returning to New Zealand and Australia, both places dear to their hearts, especially as a tribute to their late mentor, Michael Gudinski. “We have been yearning to return to this part of the world for a while now, and this tour will be dedicated to Gudinski’s memory,” she shared.

For Manson and her bandmates—Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig—this tour goes beyond a simple return. It stands as a heartfelt tribute to Gudinski, the founder of Mushroom Group, who passed away in 2021 and was one of their earliest supporters. “He was like the godfather of our band,” Manson recalled, sharing that Gudinski treated everyone involved with kindness and warmth.

Reflecting on his absence, she stated, “The idea of coming to Australia and not having him there is painful. But we’ll be there, not just for the fans but for Michael.”

The Legacy of Garbage

Originating from Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage burst onto the scene with their self-titled debut in 1995, which went double platinum in both Australia and New Zealand. They delivered classic hits such as “Only Happy When It Rains,” “Stupid Girl,” and “Vow.” Over the years, the band has continued to develop, marrying Manson’s fierce charisma with dark, catchy production on albums like Version 2.0, Beautiful Garbage, and No Gods No Masters from 2021. Their latest single, “There’s No Future in Optimism,” showcases that their edge remains sharp.
