After nearly two decades, Smriti Irani has made a highly anticipated return to television, stepping back into her iconic role as Tulsi Virani in *Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2*. The actress and politician shared her insights on her return, the evolution of the TV landscape, and the persistent challenges in the industry.
During an interview with *India Today*, Smriti shared that the emotional connection to the character Tulsi and the legacy of the show brought her back to acting. She recognized the positive advancements like better technology and production values while pointing out the ongoing challenge of extensive work hours in the industry.
“It’s vital to honor the producer’s commitment. Declining to work due to personal feelings isn’t professional. However, I believe there are opportunities to elevate the industry’s market value alongside its creative aspects,” she expressed.
Addressing the recent conversation about Deepika Padukone’s rumored exit from two projects due to an eight-hour work policy, Smriti referred to it as an “individual issue.” She asserted that the biological distinctions between genders complicate comparisons in scenarios like pregnancy.
Recalling her own journey, Smriti shared that she worked through two pregnancies while filming the original *Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.* “I was determined to contribute to the show’s success. I can’t expect others to mirror my work ethic. If I don’t show up, 120 people can’t cash their paychecks that day. It’s about accountability and discipline,” she noted.
*Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2* is currently airing on Star Plus and is also available on JioCinema, reviving one of Indian television’s most cherished characters.
