Gulshan Devaiah might seem like he’s on top of the world at the moment. His film, Kantara Chapter 1, has shattered records, amassing over ₹650 crore globally and eclipsing hits like Baahubali. Despite the accolades, Gulshan remains grounded, choosing not to let the fame overwhelm him. In a candid conversation, he discusses the film’s success and its impact on his career.
Insights on Kantara Chapter 1
Reflecting on the film’s achievements, Gulshan shares his thoughts: “I cherish the appreciation. When it’s happening, I embrace it fully, then I let it go. You have to keep moving forward.”
He acknowledges the shift fame can induce in his career trajectory: “Such attention undoubtedly impacts your opportunities; it will enhance my profile and remuneration,” he notes with a smile.
Navigating Fame
Gulshan humorously remarks on his rapid ascent in IMDb’s rankings, shooting up over 200 spots after the film’s release. “I jumped from 213 to 22 on IMDb. If I do a bikini shoot, who knows how high I might go!” he quips.
He is astonished by his current ranking, surpassing numerous well-known stars. “I’m above Mrunal Thakur and Triptii Dimri. How did that happen?” he laughs, yet remains appreciative of the moment, saying, “I enjoy this spotlight but I’m ready to release it soon.”
Originally a Hindi film actor, Gulshan, who hails from Karnataka, sees his film journey as a homecoming. “I’ve spent the majority of my life in Karnataka, so for me, cinema is where I truly belong,” he explains.
Expanding Cinematic Horizons
Kantara Chapter 1 has made significant waves across India, raking in over ₹150 crore in both Kannada and Hindi. “Our understanding of cinema is evolving. Hindi films used to dominate in pan-India screenings, but now stories from various regions are captivating even Hindi speakers. I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting shift,” Gulshan expresses.
The film, a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, is helmed by Rishab Shetty and boasts a talented cast, including Rukmini Vasanth and Jayaram. It continues to be screened in theatres nationwide.
