Lucy Dacus Delivers ‘Best Guess’ at Unique Wedding Ceremony on ‘Kimmel’

Four couples took their first dance to the melodic notes of Lucy Dacus’s song “Best Guess” as she delivered a live performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. After completing the song, Dacus smoothly transitioned into a heartfelt moment where she officiated weddings for the couples on stage.

“Hi, everyone,” Dacus greeted the crowd. “Are you ready to get married?” Each couple exchanged vows, making commitments to support one another through life’s ups and downs. Their unions culminated in sweet kisses, sealing their promises.

“Best Guess” is part of Dacus’s latest album, Forever Is a Feeling. She noted, “It’s a song that is essentially about acknowledging the unpredictability of life while making your best guess.” In an interview with The New York Times, she elaborated on the track’s message.

During the New York edition of the All Things Go festival in September, she invited nine couples to join her on stage for this special occasion. As an ordained officiant through the Universal Life Church, Dacus conducted two ceremonies and signed the wedding certificates for the remaining seven couples as a witness.

Reflecting on the current political climate, Dacus shared, “I wish these ceremonies were devoid of any reminders of ongoing threats to people’s rights. Yet, it’s evident that these concerns linger in the minds of everyone present—both performers and audience members alike.”

In a subsequent Instagram post, Dacus expressed optimism, much like the themes seen in “Best Guess.” She mentioned, “I often feel disoriented and overwhelmed, but I am deeply in love with this life.”
