Vishal Jethwa Discusses His Experience with Co-stars and Nepotism
Career Journey and Initial Struggles
Actor Vishal Jethwa, known for his role in the Oscar-nominated film Homebound, recently shared insights into his experiences in the film industry. He disclosed that, by the time he debuted in Mardaani 2, he had already dedicated around 14 to 15 years to honing his craft.
Thoughts on Nepotism
During an interview, Vishal opened up about the topic of nepotism, stating that he finds complaints regarding it to evoke a "very loser feeling." He emphasized the importance of hard work in securing a significant role alongside co-stars like Ishaan Khatter. Vishal cited Shah Rukh Khan as an example of a self-made star, illustrating that perseverance can lead to success, irrespective of one’s background.
“Complaining about nepotism every time gives me a very loser feeling. If I had given up yesterday, thinking that nothing like this would ever happen, then I wouldn’t be standing here today. That’s because I worked hard to get it,” he remarked.

When discussing whether he sensed favoritism towards star kids on set, Vishal acknowledged there are differences in environment. While he felt that Ishaan and Janhvi do not exert privilege themselves, he recognized that the surrounding support often sways interactions in their favor. He maintains, however, that he does not feel insecure about it as he understands it’s beyond their control.
Challenges Faced in His Career
Vishal elaborated on the hurdles he confronted throughout his career. He pointed out that he did not have anyone to recommend him in the industry, and his breakthrough did not come overnight. By the time he joined Mardaani 2, he was already a seasoned actor.
The Journey of Homebound
Vishal made his acting debut in 2013 with Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap. Over the years, he has appeared in various television series before entering Bollywood. His most recent venture, Homebound, which was released on September 26, 2025, represents India in the Best International Feature category at the Oscars. The film, backed by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla, includes executive production by Martin Scorsese.
