Bengali Actors Unite to Support Calamity-Affected Communities in North Bengal

Bengali Film Community Unites for Flood Relief Efforts
Kolkata, in a heartfelt show of solidarity, the Bengali film industry has come together to support those affected by recent floods and landslides in north Bengal.
Notable figures like Prosenjit Chatterjee and Dev announced on Tuesday that producers, directors, and actors are mobilizing resources to raise funds for the victims’ families.
The collected donations will be presented to the West Bengal Chief Minister’s Relief Fund promptly, ensuring rapid support for those in need.
According to a spokesperson from the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association, approximately ₹20 lakh has already been gathered. This initiative commenced just on Tuesday noon, with hopes for increased contributions as the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Chatterjee remarked, “Those in the entertainment industry often face significant pressures due to their commitments, and it’s essential not to judge them without understanding the circumstances.”
He further expressed his sadness regarding the suffering in the region, emphasizing, “Our connection with north Bengal compels us to contribute not just financially but physically as well.”
In addition to Prosenjit and Dev, actor Srabanti Chatterjee and producers Firdausal Hasan, Himanshu Dhanuka, and Rana Sarkar have also stepped up to aid this vital cause.
Previously, Prosenjit and other film personalities attracted criticism on social media for attending the Durga Puja Carnival shortly after the calamity, which claimed several lives in regions like Mirik, Darjeeling, and Jalpaiguri. In response, Prosenjit stated on social media, “The Bengali cinema industry stands with the people of north Bengal. We share your pain and want to join your fight against adversity.”
