Soha Ali Khan reflects on the significant scrutiny Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor faced during their wedding.
Recently, Soha Ali Khan shared her thoughts on the intense public reaction to the marriage of her brother, Saif Ali Khan, and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan. In a candid discussion with Nayandeep Rakshit on his YouTube channel, Soha revealed that the couple faced severe backlash, including death threats and threats directed towards their families.
Soha Reflects on Saif and Kareena’s Wedding
Despite the backlash, Saif and Kareena went ahead with a private ceremony in October 2012. Soha noted that their bravery helped lessen the intense criticism she faced during her own interfaith marriage with Kunal Kemmu.
When asked if she experienced backlash during her marriage, Soha stated that she managed to remain unaffected. “As long as those I love and respect are on the same page, I’m okay. Critics will always exist, and that’s fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” she explained.
Soha further elaborated on the atmosphere during Saif and Kareena’s wedding, recalling, “There were many strange narratives, like Love Jihad and Ghar Wapsi. Some even said, ‘You took one of ours, now we will take one of yours.’”
Saif had shared in a past interview that Kareena’s father, Randhir Kapoor, received anonymous threats that indicated potential harm during their wedding. However, Saif stood firm, stating, “Making threats and carrying them out are two different matters.” He drew inspiration from his own parents, who had faced public scrutiny for their interfaith marriage in the 1960s.
