Bobby Deol Counts His Blessings and Recent Hits
New Delhi: Bobby Deol is celebrating an impressive milestone—30 years since his debut in “Barsaat.” His career has had its ups and downs, resembling a thrilling film plot. Now, he seems to have made a remarkable comeback, attracting a fresh fan base and taking on diverse roles.
Known initially as Dharmendra’s son, Bobby’s shift from romantic lead to compelling character actor includes roles as a villain in “Animal,” a dubious godman in “Aashram,” and a complex star in “The Ba***ds of Bollywood.”
Bobby reflects on his past lows candidly, sharing the hardships he faced during a tough period in his career. Today, he expresses immense gratitude for his family’s unwavering support, particularly from his father.
“The love they have given me energizes me… Without meeting me or speaking to me, it’s something that no one can understand unless they’ve experienced their own bad times,” he told PTI during a Zoom interview.
When asked about the advice he would give his younger self, Bobby replied, “There’s no advice. I needed to learn from my mistakes and navigate my own journey.” His early stardom brought several hits, yet he also faced a series of flops that left him feeling isolated.
“Have you ever felt like you lost everything and had no one to lean on? That was my reality too. I had no one to blame but myself for giving up during that time,” he admitted.
Despite those struggles, acting has always remained his true love. Growing up watching his father’s films ignited his passion for the craft.
Bobby recalls, “When I expressed my desire to act, my father supported me instantly, saying, ‘Go for it.’ His belief in me has propelled me through my career.” He also acknowledges superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan for their support during his challenging times.
His resurgence began with the 2020 film “Class of ’83,” leading to projects like “Love Hostel” and the recent Netflix series “The Ba***ds of Bollywood,” a significant endeavor for Aryan Khan.
“My third collaboration with Red Chillies feels special. Shah Rukh’s support is something I cherish,” Bobby expressed. He felt an immediate connection with Aryan’s youthful enthusiasm and storytelling aspirations.
Along with previous hits, projects like “Aashram” and “Animal” have contributed to his revived fame. “Aamir Khan was among the first to congratulate me for my work in ‘Animal,'” he shared.
Bobby has learned important life lessons during this second phase of his career. “Respect every aspect of your life—what truly drives you. For me, it’s my work,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, he aspires to maintain his current trajectory. “I hope to stay true to myself, with God’s strength guiding me through future challenges,” he added.
