Lenzing Unveils Tencel Lyocell-HV100: Innovating Sustainable Fibers

## New Cellulose Fibre Introduction

Austrian fibre innovator Lenzing has unveiled a groundbreaking cellulose fibre called Tencel Lyocell-HV100. This innovative fibre is characterized by intentional irregularities and draws inspiration from the natural textures found in fibres. According to Lenzing, this launch responds to specific market needs.

## Unique Properties of Tencel Lyocell-HV100

The unique, natural look of the fabric results from carefully controlled variations in fibre staple lengths, ranging from 10 to 28 millimetres. “Beyond texture, the matte finish of the fibre enhances its opaque look, giving brands and factories broader creative avenues for designing fabrics that mimic natural materials,” Lenzing explained. Additionally, the fibres provide a soft yet less fluid feel, making them suitable for premium denim applications, while also ensuring a natural softness that simplifies washing.

## Expanding Potential in Textile Applications

Tencel Lyocell-HV100 demonstrates impressive performance in denim where authentic texture is essential. The fibres create new opportunities for warp yarns, which have traditionally relied on cotton, without compromising the efficiency needed in manufacturing. Beyond denim, preliminary tests in both apparel and home textiles suggest a wider range of applications for this new fibre.

### Insights from Lenzing’s Vice President

Florian Heubrandner, vice president of global business management textiles at Lenzing, shared insights on the technological advancements offered by Tencel Lyocell-HV100. “This controlled variation enables innovative pathways for yarns and fabrics that weren’t achievable with previous Lyocell variants. We’re already observing creative approaches across various sectors that hold promise for significant product differentiation,” he remarked.

## Future Applications and Availability

Initially, Tencel Lyocell-HV100 will be incorporated into denim products, with broader applications planned for textiles and home goods by 2026. Attendees of Kingpins Amsterdam in October will have the opportunity to see the new fibres at Lenzing’s booth.
