Simi Garewal’s unconventional tribute to Ravan

In a recent post, veteran actress and talk show host Simi Garewal startled her followers with an unexpected tribute to Ravan, the demon king. Traditionally associated with evil, Ravan is burned in effigy during Dussehra. However, Garewal took a different approach, arguing for a more nuanced view of the character.

“Dear Ravana… Each year, we commemorate the victory of good over evil. However, your actions might deserve a reclassification from ‘Evil’ to ‘Slightly Naughty’,” she wrote. “After all, what did you even do?”

She further noted that even with his infamous actions, Ravan showed respect towards the kidnapped lady, treating her better than many do in today’s society. “You offered her good food and took care of her,” she added.

Continuing her post, she provocatively compared Ravan’s education to that of Indian politicians, stating, “I think you were more educated than half of our Parliament.” To conclude, she shared a light-hearted note: “No hard feelings when it comes to burning you; it’s just a tradition. Happy Dussehra.”

Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, not only marks the end of the Navratri festival but also the victory of Lord Rama over Ravan, signifying the eternal struggle between good and evil. It’s celebrated across India with rituals like effigy burning, Ramleela performances, and prayers for wisdom, justice, and strength.
