Jisshu Sengupta’s Journey in Bollywood

Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta rose to fame on television before making his mark in films. He has frequently discussed the hurdles he faced transitioning from the small screen to the big screen. In a recent conversation, he recounted an early experience with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan while filming Rituporno Ghosh’s “The Last Lear.”

Jisshu recalled meeting Amitabh during the film’s production in 2007. The renowned director introduced the two, as they had a significant three-page scene together. While Amitabh portrayed a mentally challenged theatre actor, Jisshu took on the role of a distinguished journalist.

A Difficult Scene

During their time on set, Jisshu faced challenges while rehearsing a crucial scene. He explained that the pressure intensified when the director criticized him. Jisshu shared, “I was told to act with more attitude but felt overwhelmed. As I was struggling, Amitabh stepped in and defended me, saying, ‘Why are you scolding this boy? Can he deny that I am Amitabh Bachchan?’” This moment significantly impacted Jisshu, as he contemplated quitting acting.

He further elaborated on Amitabh’s support, stating, “He rehearsed with me 30 times, ensuring I felt comfortable. When I later asked him why he helped me, he highlighted his responsibility to the film’s success, emphasizing that for both our performances to shine, we needed to support each other.”

Current and Upcoming Projects

Recently, Jisshu appeared in “The Trial Season 2,” alongside Kajol and Kubbra Sait. The show has received mixed reviews and is available for streaming on JioHotstar. Looking ahead, he will be featured in Priyadarshan’s film “Bhooth Bangla,” set to release on April 2, 2026, alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.

On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in the 2024 Tamil film “Vettaiyan” and is set to reprise his role in Nag Ashwin’s upcoming project, “Kalki 2898 AD,” expected to begin filming this December. He is also currently hosting the popular quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17.”
