Rani Mukerji Shares Her Dad’s Disappointment Over Her National Award Loss

Rani Mukerji Reflects on Disappointment
Rani Mukerji recently shared her father’s heartfelt reaction when she didn’t secure the National Award for her role in Black. During an event in Delhi, she recalled how there was buzz about her victory. Unfortunately, when she didn’t win, her father, Ram Mukerji, felt “very disappointed and heartbroken.”
Effort Behind Black
Reflecting on her experiences, Rani mentioned that even director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was let down by her loss. She emphasized, “I poured my heart into Black. At just 25 years old, I thought I had a good chance to win.” This experience taught her a poignant lesson about unpredictability in the industry.
The Impact of Her Father’s Disappointment
She further acknowledged, “My father was deeply affected by my loss. He felt heartbroken, as did Sanjay. However, I believe that when things are meant to be, they will come to pass. The support I received from audiences and fans was beyond anything I could have wished for.”
About the Film Black
Directed and co-produced by Bhansali, Black features Amitabh Bachchan, Ayesha Kapur, Shernaz Patel, and Dhritiman Chatterjee. The film, inspired by Helen Keller’s life and writings, explores the journey of Michelle, a deaf and blind woman, and the unique bond she shares with her teacher, Debraj, who later suffers from Alzheimer’s. It earned the National Award for Best Actor and Best Feature Film in Hindi among other accolades.
Rani’s Recent Achievements
Rani has recently clinched her first National Award for Best Actress for her portrayal in *Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway*, which is based on the actual case of Sagarika Chakraborty, a mother fighting to regain custody of her children from Norwegian welfare services in 2011.
Excitingly, she is set to feature in *Mardaani 3*, the much-anticipated continuation of the franchise, directed by Abhiraj Minawala, releasing on February 27, 2026.
