Prince William Reflects on His Toughest Year Yet: A Look at 2024

Prince William’s Personal Struggles in 2024

A Year of Challenges

Prince William has opened up about his tumultuous experiences in 2024, labeling it as the most difficult year of his life. Both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have faced cancer diagnoses, casting a shadow over the royal family’s usually celebratory demeanor.

These revelations emerged during a preview of the Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveller, featuring actor Eugene Levy. Levy, widely known for his roles in Schitt’s Creek and American Pie, was invited to Windsor Castle by the Prince for a personal tour.

Personal Invitation to Windsor Castle

William’s invitation to Levy was penned on Kensington Palace stationery. Dated January 2025, it read:

"Dear Eugene, I heard that your travels have brought you to the UK, and I wondered if you might like to see Windsor Castle? If you’re free at 10 tomorrow, why don’t you pop down to the castle for a private tour? It would be great to see you!"

During their meeting, they shared a drink in a pub, where the Prince candidly discussed the emotional toll the last year has had on him.

An Emotional Reflection

“I’d say 2024 was the hardest year I’ve ever had,” William mentioned. He expressed his belief that life has its tests, and overcoming them helps shape our identities.

In early February 2024, King Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis and began outpatient treatment. Shortly thereafter, in March, Princess Catherine announced she was also receiving treatment following major abdominal surgery.

Catherine’s Journey with Cancer

Catherine described her experience as “incredibly tough for us as a family.” By September 2024, she had completed chemotherapy and announced that she was in remission by January 2025.

William, who is the father of three children—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—also lightened the mood by joking about parenthood’s demands. When Levy asked what he does at home, William chuckled, saying, "Sleep. When you’ve got three small children, sleep is an important part of my life."

Upcoming Show and Royal Life

The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy: Living the Royal Life in the UK is set to debut on October 3. It’s anticipated to provide viewers with a unique glimpse into the everyday lives of the royal family against the backdrop of life’s challenges.
